A short story penned at age 11 by Gilad Shalit, the Israeli soldier kidnapped in Gaza in June 2006, accompanied by professional illustrations. It first appeared on the Web site devoted to the kidnapped Israeli soldiers. (Some of the incomes of the sales goes to "Habanim" organization - www.habanim.org )

The story is about a shark and a fish who become friends, who continue to play together despite parental pressure to remain natural enemies, and who ultimately forge peace between their two species.

It has already been translated into numerous languages, including Arabic and English, with the intention of reaching the Palestinian territories. Advertisement

Story and illustrations, by members of the Israel Association of Illustrators, are currently on exhibit at The Edge gallery in Nahariya. Also on display are children's drawings inspired by Shalit's story.

The Cat in the Hat, perhaps the defining book of Dr. Seuss's career, developed as part of a unique joint venture between Houghton Mifflin (Vanguard Press) and Random House. Houghton Mifflin asked Dr. Seuss to write and illustrate a children's primer using only 225 "new-reader" vocabulary words. Because he was under contract to Random House, Random House obtained the trade publication rights, and Houghton Mifflin kept the school rights. With the release of The Cat in the Hat, Dr. Seuss became the definitive children's book author and illustrator.
